Bucks For Buckets

By Alyssa DiLoreto – 10/24/18

Portland is long overdue for a large earthquake but if the Bucks for Buckets fundraiser does it’s job, ACA will be better prepared if and when the “big one” strikes. Earthquakes and other natural disasters have hurt so many people, and broken so many lives due to unpreparedness. This year, Oregon City School District is working on being prepared for any emergency. This year, ACA is starting the Bucks For Buckets fundraiser to increase our natural disaster preparedness.

Bucks for Buckets is our fundraising campaign to purchase a disaster preparedness red bucket of supplies for each classroom. These buckets are five gallons and will contain many items necessary for survival, shall a natural disaster happen. ACA is wanting to raise money to get one of these buckets in each classroom. “We are purchasing the buckets from a company the school district used, Ready Northwest,” says Seanna Bloemer, ACA’s Director “Each bucket costs $65 (individually) plus $450.00 for shipping (for the whole order). Our goal is $1500.00, 20 buckets for our school.” You can make your donation for Bucks For Buckets in the office. So far, ACA has raised $899 for this fundraiser. Making this donation will aid in making sure our school will have what we need to survive in case of an emergency.

“The buckets are easy to store and heavy duty. They will provide us basic first aid/safety supplies, an emergency source of water and hard candy (sugar) for people with medical needs,” according to Bloemer. “We plan to have more water, basic food and other items on hand at our reunification site in the neighborhood, should we need to evacuate and relocate. Also most items are a one time purchase, only a few items need to be replaced every 5 years.”

Here is a list of all the supplies that will come with each purchase of a bucket.

  • Lid/Toilet Seat and Cover (on the top of each bucket)
  • 30 – 4 oz. Water Pouches
  • 10 Water Purification Tablets – each tablet purifies 1 liter of water
